2door VS 4door:

Ok so i searched & couldnt find what i was looking for. Basically i wanna know if either the 4dr or the 2dr hold any advantages over the other?? Ive heard that trimming the rear quarters on a 2dr is easier to do & ull get more clearance to stuff the tires. Also are they the same length, especially the roof since i have a light bar & an olympic top hat roof rack going on it??

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the fender trimming but as far as body length they are both exactly the same.

The 2 doors are a little more rigid and have better torsional stiffness just due to the fact there is not two extra doors.
Plus you have larger doors to get in or out of.
Plus they look cool not so soccer momish. LOL

If the fenders are easier to trim it's because there's not a door in the way...

Two door XJs are better.

More rare.

And I own one. So of course they are better. :D

2 doors have a little bit better structure rigidity.
longer doors. however if theres more than 2 people then its a pain.
2 doors you can attach MJ 6in bedside flares that look absolutley BA
4 doors... easy to get in and out for multiple people
4 doors let you put windows down behind you.
other that that i cant think of too much. but a built one, the 2 door will be more expensive because the seller prolly knows its harder to find.

Well everyone has hit all the 2 door stuff except they are harder to find interior parts for. Example being seats that fold enough, trim, windows, etc. Also, because the doors are larger and weigh more, the hinges are a fail point. On mine, the passenger door has that ugly sag to it. Already have plans to fix it but that's the only issue I have.

On the positive, running doorless on a 2 door looks so much better in my opinion. It is nice having a larger door and more room to get in but getting in the back is a *****. On the note of no rear windows, if you can find one with rear vent windows, those are nice. I found some at a jy and installed them on mine.

X2, I get people giving me offers all the time for my 2 door 5 speed. Its really nice having 2 bigger doors when your lifted and have to jump into it in certain situations but sucks when other people try to get in the back. Best solution is remove the back seat. :tt2: One downside is getting at stuff in the back, you either have to climb thru the tailgate or reach thru the doors.

I believe the 4 door actually has more structure because of the extra pillar and bracing for the door opening. I think the 2 door looks better, but if you need to get to the backseat area the door makes it easy.

I love my 4 door, but a 2 door 5 speed is definitely on my bucket list.

The shorter doors of a 4-door are nice for getting in and out in tight parking spots

I own one of each.
But the one I bought for ME was a 4.0 5 speed 4x4 2 door

Personally the 2-door has a sportier and cooler look. The roof isn't as strong as the 4-door though with the additional pillars. Also the lower part of the body might very well be stronger on the 4-door. With more bends and the extra pillar gives it more points joining the chassis to the roof.

Here's some pix of a recent crash showing the points where extra pillars might have helped.

the door hinges on a 2 door come off the A-pillar more often than the 4 door, cuz thers more weight
