242, how does it lock up in PART TIME?
Hey guys,
Ok, I am looking for a fairly specific bit of info. I can't find a thread that covers this point using the search engine.
I understand how the 242 works, and the difference between Part and Full time. My question is, if it is using clutches in the full time setting for torque biasing, how does it lock up when in Part Time? Does it bypass the clutch completely, add more clamping force to the clutch packs, "pin" the clutches together, or something that has not even crossed my mind?
I figure if I need something esoteric answered, someone here is going to have the answer.
Thanks!

There is no clutches in a 242, it is an open differential when in full time and in part time it is a full mechanical lock just like a np231.

I was reading a write up that said something about clutches...thought it was an AMC brochure, but I must have been reading someone's fantasy novel! lol
I read your reply's the day you sent them, but I was on my phone and it would not let me reply...same ol' stuff, different day! lol
