valve cover gasket... Dropped peice!! please help!

Default valve cover gasket... Dropped peice!! please help!

so i was changing my Valve cover gasket and dropped an inch to 2 inch piece down into my engine. what should i do?

the gasket im assuming...
it shouldnt have gone far, cant go past the head...

Im assuming you dropped a piece of the old gasket in there and lost it, your first post was very vague. I would spend a good amount of tim trying to recover it, and i probably wouldn't leave it in there. The gaskets bad enough but if you tracked some dirt in there with the gasket you could be looking at some internal damage.

yes its a piece of gasket. any techniques to get it out? do i have to take apart the whole valvetrain?

Your going to have to bite the bullet and take enough apart untill you can see the object you dropped and take it out. Take pictures and label the stuff you do disassemble as this will help when you go to put it back together. Good luck.

Where did it fall? Can you see it? I had a similar issue and picked up a mechanical grabber, much like a magnetic grabber, but with lil "fingers" at the end.

it fell down that little whole that the rocker arm goes into.

Thank! I like the way you put that. I hope it doesnt come to that but if it does thanks for the advice. Will it mess up my timing if i take apart the valve train?

I dont think so, but I have never taken the rockers and stuff out.
