It will fit but there will be some things that won't match up if memory serves.The head is different so there might be some sensors and such that won't match up from the 98 jeep. Other then that the blocks are identical. My suggestion would be get the motor and have your 98 head rebuilt and swap em out.

01 was the last year for the XJ. 02 was the first year for it's replacement, the Liberty (KJ).

Must be a Grand Cherokee he's referring to.

The distributor is different. The 01 or 02 (whatever year) has a coil pack I believe and there is some different sensors. I helped with a Wrangler swap - 02 engine in a 98. Pretty much plug and play but I do remember that there was an issue trying to find a plug for something.

change the intake manifold take the 98 fit on the 2001
