2001 XJ starter
why is the starter hanging it’s butt out for all to see? just dropped a new one in last summer, already i have to smack it to get the solenoid to kick. just getting to and from the house requires about a half mile in 4wd, i feel like it’s just drinking mud. is there a splash guard for this or what do you guys do to mitigate it?
im also swapping o2 sensors out. i did both bank 1 sensors, put in some copper ngk plugs, changed the ridiculous waste spark coil rail. it’s still popping B1S1 o2 code, and a cylinder 6 misfire. also most of you are ridiculous i simply had to join. i’m ryan. 2001 cherokee limited 4.0 4wd |
postscript: this is my sister’s jeep. i was dubious at first, but the more i get to know this wonky I6 the more i love it. the whole thing is a prince of pain; capable. the 4.0 is a marvel. a pushrod oversquare gnarl factory. i’ve done a starter, tstat, water pump, alternator, and ignition rework. i have grudgingly come to adore this thing.

I had a 95 YJ that loved mud in the starter too. I had to pull the solenoid apart several times to clean the mud out. Eventually replaced it, and never had another issue with it.

Would a skid plate cover the starter? It's not that far from the oil pan.

The oem skidplate only reached back to about the front of the engine.
