2001 Jeep XJ 2WD transmission
Ok, so I am replacing the gear that sits on the out put shaft of my 2WD auto XJ. Unfortunately I had two bolts that broke off while trying to remove the cone from the back of the transmission. Now that i drilled them all out (what a *****), I was wondering if there is a gasket that goes in between the trans and cone, or the red silicone is being used as a gasket.
Does anyone know?

There's no fluid under pressure in that area, just draining fluid used as lube, so silicone should work. If you want a gasket, rub silicone into a brown paper grocery bag, both sides, let it dry, then cut out your gasket. I've used this method before for thermostat gaskets in a pinch.
