Here's what Rock Auto lists:

I replaced mine many moons ago with a Standard Motor Products one. It's doing fine.

Am always amazed when folks ask up here for a part number, when anyone can just go to rockauto.com and look it up themselves and see all the options, make sure they have the right year make model, and then order it. Or napa, or advance, or autozone,...or Ebay which has exhaustive year make model checkers and tell you what other makes models also take the same part.

Especially since you practically have access to every XJ parts catalog online.
There was one thing I did notice when looking myself.
It appears '97 has a different part number for a 4 or 6 cylinder.
Which is different then the part numbers for '98 which also lists 2. One for a 4 cylinder and one for a 6.
Which is different then '99 to '00 that just lists one for both 4 cylinder and for a 6.
Which is the same for '01 but no mention of a 4 cylinder at all. Just the 4.0
Which I have to admit confused me. I never gave it much thought, until now, but just figured it was the same one for all of them.
And on top of all that both RockAuto and Napa say that the part number for '99 and up fits '98 and up.
So there is another discrepancy.
And the throttle body part number itself is the same for all of them.
So I am assuming it is not really the part itself but the connector on the part and the connector on the harness that connects to it.

Right. Hence the old disclaimer, "Correct fitment rests with the installer".

I do agree with you for the most part.
