most people will also replace the evaporator core at the same time. ....first thing you need to do is disconnect the battery --the links are write ups that should help you.

Heater Core pinhole leak. Just some smell and the windshield fogging up? Find the small (3 oz?) tube of Aluma-Seal brand stop leak. (no other brand). Put just 1/2 of that in a soda bottle with a cup or so of water. Before a long drive, shake it up and add it to your coolant. If it's still leaking in a week, repeat with the other 1/2 tube. If it's still leaking after another week, it's not going to work. It won't clog your core, but even if it did you were going to change it anyway! I've had success with this at least 1/2 a dozen times. Subaru, Volvo, Toyota, Tempo, couple Jeeps....it works.

It's a fairly simple and "easy" process, just a bit time consuming. Look on YouTube for some video tutorials (there are a few).
Make sure you have everything you need before you start, I would suggest doing the evap core at the same time.
Read this before and after the traditional how-to guides

BlueRidge Mark- I'm gonna give your idea a try. How long a drive are you talking about? Hour? 2? Just want to do it right.
Thanks-SeaVee ( over here in VB, love to get my jeep up your way!)

Which idea? The Amway flush? Not what you need for a leak, but if your system needs flushing, leave it in there for a few weeks of normal driving.

BR Mark- I was referring to the AlumaSeal solution . Figured I'd try that as a last ditch effort. Just getting a little coolant smell and fog on passenger side of windshield. I saw on the AlumaSeal site it takes 300 miles of driving to set up. I don't normally drive that much in a month. Guess I might have to take a trip.....

If you have to replace it don't pull the steering column. Unholy it down, while straight and DO NOT pull the adjuster lever when disconnected. If it bends up you so that get it back in.
I pulled my dash half way back by connecting the passenger side dash with a long bungee cord to the driver side backseat oh Shoot! Handle on the ceiling. It was up and out of the way. If you can pull the passenger side seat I think that'd be worth the time also. My bolts were too rusty to do that though.
