I just bought a 2000 xj 4.0 with a blown motor. Hole in the # 2 piston and the head is cracked in 2 places. My plan is to build a motor to swap in. I have a 94 4.0 out of my other xj that is stripped down in my shop. i replaced it about a year ago with a new motor out of a grand cherokee that was totaled. The 94 motor was running fine the day i pulled it but was burning a lot of oil. It had 240k on it. I'm rebuilding the bottom end, tho really all it needs is rings. I plan on buying a reman head for a 2000 and bolting it on but I'm not finding any for a decent price. I called City Motor Supply but they said they never stock them only rebuild them. I do have the 94 head that i could get rebuilt but I'm not sure what all i would have to customize to make that work. Looking for advice on what route to go. Planning on just selling this jeep but i want it fixed well for the buyer. Its a very clean jeep, only has 115k miles on it. Thanks in advance for the help.

Buy a new 2000 model head if that is what you are planning to go with on the '94 block.
Even a reman or used one, should you find one, should be suspect because of the casting flaw all of the 0331 heads have. They can and do crack with little or no provocation.

The cyl head you want is a TUPY stamped 0331.. these were redesigned once Chrysler was aware of the old 0331 cracking issues. You'll see it marked with TUPY just below the oil fill.
I have never had to deal with just a head but from what I read the place to buy is from Alabama Cylinder Heads.

Those do seem to be the best options for a new head. I wasn't expecting to pay so much but I don't really seem to have any options of reman units. What about using my 94 head and buying a header and making the coil hold downs? Has anyone had any experience doing that?
