Default 2000 Sport vs 93 Country

Hey yall. There are two XJ's in the area that are selling for 2k that I am looking at getting but cant decide. I would really appreciate the advice and insight.

2000 Sport
CONS:
Auto
172xxx
Its got a little knock.
PS fluid leaking.
Windshield has a small crack
2000 was the lowest I could talk him down (he wanted 2900.... )
The paint is a little suspect but not that bad. Just not clean
PROS:
The interior is well taken care of.
Comes with 31" BF All-Terrains and a 3" lift
and besides the cons mentioned it seems fine (shifts smooth, 4x4 works, ext)
I guess it looks alot better being its newer, has nice wheels, and tints.

93 Country
I think over all its in better shape than the 00' but the age and rust put me on the fence
CONS:
Auto
Has some rust on the bottom of the car (not the floor boards but a little on the suspension some other stuff I cant remember)
4x4 Low keeps popping outta gear (she said her bf would take a look at it sat tho)
PROS:
128xxx
The owners boyfriend and step dad work at the jeep dealership and have done a lot of servicing to it (from what I can see and what they say)
Its got power everything (including the seats....My last Xj was a 2DR and the seats only moved forward...... MANUALLY)
Besides the rust Its pretty clean and well taken care of inside and out

All things being equal, I prefer the older (pre 1997) XJs. I have both a 2000 Limited and a 1995 Country. The Country is cooler.

In your case, the 2000 might have an issues with the 0331 head that the 1993 would not have. The 1993 does not have an airbag, the 2000 does. I do not like the sound of the condition of the 2000. Be super sure that the rust on the 1993 can be repaired and that you won't need a new front axle assembly (like I did). You will want to replace the suspension anyway, but make sure that the structure is good.

If the dad and BF work at a dealer, why is the TC messed up? I would agree to buy it for $2,000 upon the condition that the TC be fixed before you give them any money. Write up a note that you both sign just to get soem skin in the game from both parties. I would not let the age bother me too much, parts are easy to get and cheap.

I think your right. Im definitely going to talk to him about the TC. I also don't like the fact that the 2k accumulated so many miles in less time but I always heard these thing ran forever. Maybe they are referring to pre 97's

As stated the 2000 had the 0331 head, the knock would bother me on that one, if it is cracked, or went undetected/fixed the rod/main bearings could be damaged. But The 4.0 is well known for its factory installed noises. The '93 I would take it to a good body shop have em give it once over as far as the rust is concerned, it its repairable and such costs. The T/C could be as simple as the shifter needing adjustment or the bushing in the mode fork broken.

The country sounds a lot better, also I prefer to work on older jeeps. I have a 96 and its a pain compared to my last 89. Go for the Country
