Default 98 Cherokee Rear Wiper Help.

I've searched all the threads here on this subject (yes, all three pages worth) and haven't come up with an answer.

I recently replaced my rear wiper motor on my Cherokee with a Junkyard find. My old wiper motor had quit working, half wiping at best sometimes. I also replaced the washer pump for the window wash function.

Now I have a working rear wiper, and the window washer works fine too. Thing is, how is it supposed to work?

The first setting on the switch is the intermittent wipe function. That part works fine.

The second push of the switch activates the washer pump....but shouldn't my wiper also wipe as its spraying the window?...if so, it doesn't, it just sprays fluid, but no wipe action.

I swapped the relay on the wiper motor itself, and I got the same function.

Did I get a bad motor?....is my switch going bad?....faulty wiring?....or is this the way it's supposed to work?

I even checked the owners manual for this info....nada.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm not sure what could be wrong but, I know on my 98 XJ when I press the switch for the fluid my wipers do come on as the should. Sorry I couldn't be of any help.

thanks for the info, and yes, you were a help to me....you took the time to reply, that is a help in itself.

So you're saying that yours wipe's as it sprays the window....I figured that would be the correct method of operation....

I guess I'll just have to figure out the rest on my own.

Not a problem.
Yes, all 4 of the XJ's that I've owned all work the same way when holding the switch for the fluid the wipes do come on at the same time. Good luck and let me know what you find if anything just in case I ever end up with the same problem.

If/when I figure it out, I'll be sure to post my findings here.

my 99 takes it time for the wiper to come on. I just wait until it does then
use the sprayer.

On my "98" XJ it works as you suggested; First push on the switch gives you intermittent wipping. Second push sprays, but on my Jeep it will also wipe.
