Hi, I have a 2000 jeep cherokee sport , I also have a 2000 cherokee sport that I picked up for parts.. My question is the parts truck has the factory key fob that opens and closes the door locks with the push of a button.. It has the dome light in the ceiling that I understand is matched to the key fob for the remote entry and locking, can I just switch this (dome light security) from the parts car to the 2000 cherokee that I am planning to drive?? I do not have the ecu from the parts car only the factory key fob and the dome light?? I was hoping it would work , just looking for a simple solution?/ Anybody ever run across this?? Hi just figured I would post an update on keyless entry , I installed the overhead dome light /security unit from the parts car into the driver and to confirm I have the matching key fob and yes it does work.. I was surprised it was that easy for a change lol, so now the car has keyless entry and lock with horn sound which is all I was hoping for .. Have a good one Bill

so you are saying that all the wire connectors were there in the jeep that you put the factory remote entry in and it was just all plugged up, you didn't have to run any wires or anything?

If your jeep came from the factory with keyless remote locks then yes, all you have to do is switch out the dome light (or just the pc board) with one from another xj that has the working remotes. I did this to my 2000 last year. No wires to cut, just plug and play. If it did not have them from the factory then I dont think its that easy.

I was just curious because I am looking into getting a XJ and one of the things I want is for it to have keyless entry. Looking at XJ's for sale the saler's usually don't put whether it has keyless entry or not and I am assuming that not all the XJ's that have power door locks necessarily have keyless entry.

I wouldn't let this be any where near the deciding factor on which XJ you get. Rust (lack of) and mileage should be way up there though.

yea I understand all that LAF. But the keyless entry was definitely something I wanted on my jeep. Luckily I finally pulled the trigger on an XJ and it has pretty much everything I was looking for. It's a 2000 XJ Limited and it has almost all the options except for fog lights and heated seats. I found it not having factory fog lights odd being its a Limited and all. Maybe I can find a how to on installing factory fog lights.
