Default 91 Left rear Axle Shaft Question

My son-in-law just picked up a 91 XJ with the Crappy Bendix ABS and we found the LR axle shaft to be wasted. I'm having a hard time finding another 90-91 XJ in the boneyard with ABS, and a new shaft was quoted to be 300 bucks! Does anybody know if I can press the tone ring from the old shaft onto a non-ABS shaft?

Hey guy, I am not sure if this will help..but I seem to remember when I was looking for a blower fan for my bimmer (yeah I know not a bmw site here), but I used the google and searched on various iterations of salvage and recycle yards in the search engine.....

What I found was a network of yards that participate in being able to send parts nationwide, the one in particular however, had my part a 3o minute drive from me...otherwise I would have to had waited for three days for shipping from one in Oklahoma.....

anyway, it took me a while to get the right search terms , but I was able to locate a network of JY's...wish I still had link, can't remember it now or I didn't save it....my bad.

As the other part of your question,,,,,I would imagine the tooling process for the manufacture of the axle shaft is different for the ABS vs. the non-ABS? As the tone wheels are integral to the shaft (machined in place?)
I don't have the ABS on my 91, and from what I read in the manual the rear system is just an add on sensor device (bolted on to the drum backing plate).....and the tone wheel is part of the axle shaft......but just my two cents sir.

sorry couldn't be of more help!

good luck!

FIXED!! I found that an axle from a 93-95 ZJ with drum brakes will work perfectly, I only had to change the tone ring because of a difference of two teeth.
