2000 Jeep Cherokee
 

I am lost I have replaced my fuel pump and fuel filter on my 2000 Cherokee just did plugs and new boots for the coil pack. My jeep is stalling out when you first start it up it after it runs its fine. Is there anyway to run the codes or do I need to take it into the shop to get it placed on the computer? Any ideas. I have talked to people they said it sounds like the TPS sensor or the AIC sensor. If anybody could help me out and let me know how difficult it will be to replace it. I'm a noob just trying to learn. Thanks.

I had a similar issue as well and was under the impression my fuel pump was on the fritz until my check engine light came on. I ran the code and it turned out to be my TPS. Replaced that the issue was gone and my cruise control started working again.

For a 2000, you'll need either a code reader or a scan tool to check for codes. Which would be a great idea here. You don't need to have a check engine light on to have a stored code, which may yield a clue as to the root cause of your problem. Some parts stores like Autozone will check for codes for free.

But don't throw parts at this on a hunch. That becomes expensive and is not efficient. Sometimes you get lucky, but mostly you just get poor.

If you had it to a shop, they would put a scan tool on it and start it cold and then watch all of the different circuits and sensors on that tool to see if they are operating within their correct parameters. If you can't find this problem on your own, spending a few bucks to have a technician with a scan tool and the knowledge to use it would be advised.
