2000 cherokee sport 4.0,replaced fuel pump that was bad

Model: Cherokee(SJ)
2000 cherokee sport 4.0,replaced fuel pump that was bad
then it ran ,pulled it out and ckecked a couple times over a 4 hr period,today it backfires at throttlebody wanting to start but will not,any ideas
