Default 2000 cherokee 4.0 swap

Ok my grandpa. Blew a window in the side. Of his block and im looking for a motor for him. I seen a 90 block with a 96 head. On craigslist. That has ben completly rebuilt. With recepts what all will need to be done. To get this motor to fit. There is a 4.0 out of a 01 bit they could have they same problem. With the head cracking. Am i rite. And i cant hear it run. Because. Its already out of the jeep. I am told it runs good with good oil pressure but. Iv. Ben got befor i know. I will need headers for the older style. But what would be the easyest way to het him back on the road. Thanks. In advance

I thought fuel injection on the wrangler "YJ's" didn't come out until '91. Not sure about the XJ's.

I bought a complete motor and trans on craigs list. I made the guy warranty it against DOA. I only put motor and forgot trans! Sigh. Yes, trans was bad. Motor fine.

It's just a thought, but, have him sign something, with his name (print his first & last), address, phone number for DOA on motor. If he is pulling a fast one, he won't sign it.

My $.02

You must be typing from your cell. Hard to read what you wrote.

Have you tried the bone yards? They give a warranty (it's extra). But, you can find a low mileage one I am sure. I was at one yesterday, and they had a '98 there.

Is it the head or block that went?

Yes i am on my cell. Well the. Head. Cracked. And. Alowed it to over heat. And it blew. Out the side of the block. I have looked at bone yards but im scared to get. A. 0331 head. Because. They are. So prone to cracking between 3 and 4. Dont want to end up in same position

A 90 block with a 96 head should be fine in any 91-01 XJ...as long as it was rebuilt well.
Like the YJ's, the Chrysler FI on 4.0L came out in 1991. Before that (87-90), XJs used the Renault/Bendix (Renix) FI on 4.0L's. The head was also tweaked in 1991, riased in the intake ports I think.

Yes you can put the 90 long block in your 91 as long as you use the 91 intake and exhaust manifolds with that year gasket, use the 91 distributor, flywheel and valve cover.

No, it's not. But you will be fine with what your plans are if you follow the advice given.
