Default 2000 4.0 motor problems(please read)

Ive got a 2000 cherokee 4.0L. Here is my problem. ive got a knock at idle and was running about 10 lbs of pressure. Thought of a spun bearing, tore the motor out of it and opened up the inside of the motor. Noticed all bearings have been replaced before and are in real good shape with nothing wrong with it. Same goes with lifters and rods so ending up just replacing the oil pump, all seals and gaskets, and timing gear and chain. Put it all back together and got her going and the knock was gone and oil was great. Time passed by and the knock came back up along with decreasing oil pressure. Oil pressure reached 9lbs along with a super bad knock. Added about 2 quarts of oil and the pressure rides up at idle to 25lbs and the massive knocking went away but theres still some knocking going on in the jeep. Any ideas at all? Also if i get on the gas a bit it will shot out white/greyish smoke.

White gray smoke is coolant. Check your compression numbers.

Low oil pressure confirms you still have a "clearance" issue somewhere in that motor.

I would imagine that there is a good chance that a cracked 0331 head started this whole process. What head is on there now?

The factory 0331 head has a casting defect which can result in cracking between cylinders 3 and 4. If it's cracked, the only way of finding it with the head off would be pressure testing or magnafluxing.

Instead of rehashing it all, you should read this thread. Very good information about the 0331 head problem....

My 2000 Cherokee has 112,000 miles and has stopped working. It is a 6 cylinder, automatic. The engine will turnover, but stops running the moment I take my foot off the gas pedal... HELP!!

I Love this vehicle! What is wrong?

Welcome to the forum.

As this is a new issue and not related to the one in this thread, you need to start a NEW thread.

You will get more accurate replies and it will be easier for others to follow this thread.

As for your issue, the #1 cause of stalling at idle is a marginal battery. And yes, you can have a battery strong enough to start the engine but marginal enough to give the engine management system fits and create stalling. It is a very common symptom. Yes, there are other possibilities. But you must start by having any parts store "LOAD TEST" your battery. It's a free test.

Sounds like you have a loose hose somewhere a large air leak will do that
