Default 1999 XJ setting base timing

I've got a small misfire, and a timing light. I'd like to set the base timing.
How do I do this? In my mustang, there was a spOUT connector which disabled the computer control so it wouldn't try to automatically adjust while I was trying to time it. Is there something like this in my jeep?

You cannot adjust the timing on the 4.0... it is computer controlled

You have to set it so the computer can adjust it properly
Anybody know how to do this?

You can't physically move the distributor and adjust ignition timing. Turning the dizzy will only affect fuel synchronization, NOT ignition timing...a timing light is useless

Do you have a true misfire through the intake or just a stumply idle?

as stated, the distributor is non-adjustable. it can be set wrong, or right. there are plenty of degrees of wrongness, only one degree of rightness.
