1999 Cherokee turning over but not starting
I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport. The first sign of problem was a couple of weeks ago, I was driving down the highway and it shut off on me. No abrupt sounds or sputtering, it just shut off, so I pulled over and on the first try it started just fine. I got off the next exit and it shut off again. It was, as if, I had no gas but had over a 1/4 of a tank. I towed it home and it started when I got it home but immediately shut off. I was in need of a new battery so I replaced the battery but it does not start. It turns over just fine and doesn't sound like there are any starter problems. A friend of mine thought it may be my fuel pump because even with the throttle to the floor while starting I wasn't getting any gas to the engine. I changed the fuel pump over the weekend but am still not getting any fuel to the engine or at least I don't think I am. I only changed the pump itself, did not change the sending unit. Please help me because I am clueless at this point and I may be overlooking something simple.

When u turn the key to the run position the pump should prime for 5 seconds or so. Can u hear it run? If not. Check for power to the connector of the pump when the key is cycled to run. Without seeing a wiring diagram I can't recall if the PCM provides power or ground for the pump. But either or, you should have it at the connector.

did you check the Crank position sensor on the trans? same thing happened to me on the highway but once it turned off it wouldn't come on, replaced that and she worked like a charm

See if it will start with a shot of starting fluid if not check the CPS as XJ98sport mentioned. I am betting that it is the CPS.

I will check the crank position sensor and then get back to you. Thank you.

Yep, check for fuel and good spark!

99 sport not starting
I had the same problem same truck, drove me crazy, as simple as it may sound it was a fuse in the fuse box on the pass .side of truck lower kick panel .. Can not remember the number but I am thinking maybe # 17 or 18 fuse location?.. I would just get a light and check them all.. Good luck.. Seven

sounds like crank position sensor to me.

I changed the CPS and it started up and I haven't had any problems since I changed it yesterday. Thank you. I can't believe it was something so simple.
