Is a 1997 XJ worth it?
Got a line on a 1997 XJ with 190xxx miles. Has a lift with 33" tires. Also has powertrax lockers front and rear. Only seen pictures and talked to the owner who said the only rust was at tge bottom if the "B" pillars, same as the pictures.
my question is, what should I look for before buying this. I understand '97 was a "crossover" year? Would that be a problem with parts? Thanks for the info David |
I thought 1996 was the crossover year, but that aside, 2000-2001 XJs are significant transition as well.
I don't think many people can comment on whether a particular XJ is worth it. There are so many factors. A lot of things need to be replaced after 20+ years and 100,000+ miles. Its important to understand what has been replaced and what's original. |
Should I buy it
The “96” is a cross over year and parts are not hard to find although some may be a bit pricey. Do you turn your own wrenches? Do you like working on things? Do you have a place to work on it? And the time?
You are asking for opinions, but you don’t list the price. Bottom line is, do you want it and can you afford it. Happy trails |
The only real question is: Do you feel lucky?
I’ve had mine for several years now—no regrets, even after a 6 month stint in the shop and plenty of projects along the way. It’s still my daily driver with over 200,000 miles. |
