1997 XJ Power window and lock problems
I'm having problems with my 97 power windows and locks. I can't find anything online that sounds like what I've got going on. I recently purchased it and bought it having some of these issues figuring it would be an easy fix but its got me stumped. I'm not great with electrical work as it is. Anyways here's my issues:
Drivers side front power window used to work and recently stopped. When it was all the way down it would go back up slowly for the first third, then would run fine. A couple weeks ago it stopped working altogether.
The passenger side window works most of the time from the passenger door and never from the drivers control. It worked once when I randomly tried it but never again.
Both rear windows work fine from both drivers control and their switches.
Power locks don't work from either driver or passenger side, except twice now as I had the door apart and was fiddling with wires they worked. Once today, and once 4 or 5 days ago. The locks would work fine a few times, I'd leave it for a few minutes and then they wouldn't work. When they don't work I can hear them still trying to unlock in the passenger door.
I thought all this might just be a bad ground. I got the wires in the boot exposed and found a broken speaker wire (irrelevant but another thing I need to fix) and the ground has a small cut in it exposing the wire but none of the strands are broken. Testing it with a voltage meter shows 13.5 volts at that cut in the boot, and I made a small cut in the wire to expose it near the switch and it shows 13.4 volts. I am completely stymied as to where to go from here. Ive used up the extent of my electrical knowledge. Any ideas on where to go other than a mechanic?
