3rd brake light not working....left and right regualr brake lights work fine as well as all other lights including license plate....

got pulled over for it by police.....as ridiculous as it sounds it is law out here apparently.....and it was 4am...and noone was on road and cop was bored lol

anyways..i figured it was bad lamp but its not.....i did some testing and i get 0v to the 3rd brake light wire......i tried lifting up rear lift gate all the way and juggling wires an still get 0v

can anyone help me with the problem?

i need a fix or quick fix within 14 days or i will have to pay the ticket....

I had same problem when I bought my 2000, the wire harness that goes from the body disconnects to the tail gate had been pinched and cut at some point by the tail gate.(think 2000 is a metal gate) I had to remove the harness completely from jeep and repair on a bench. had like 8 of 12 ?? wires cut/broke/nicked/ect I have a pic of harness in my pics on this site.

what did u have to do to remove harness.....what did u remove and where is it located?

i just looked at the photo.....where does the ground connect to?...and ihow easy or hard is it to get to all this wiring?...location?

On my 2000, the tail gate has two disconnects just inside tail gate, pulled the top piece of trim off tail gate side.
the body side has three disconnects they are in the side panel behind spare tire mount the harness also had two grounds that mounted there. the hardest part was the rubber accordion type boot between the body and tail gate it was a fight getting in and out of the truck it.

this is an older post..i havent had time to try to remove and check wire harnesses however i jsut found out that in addition to 3rd brake light not wokring......the rear wiper motor will not power on and the rear window washer pump wont power on

could all of this be tied together?.....i havent used the rear wiper system in a long time so i was thinking mayber all 3 of these issues are related?

It's a law in most states. And the cop wasn't bored, it's a good method for pulling over drunk drivers. I am a former police officer and it (along with other equipment violations) was a useful tool to find drunk drivers. If your paperwork was in order, you were polite and not intoxicated, I didn't write a ticket.

yes all the tail gate wiring goes thru the same harness that we talked about before. like I said I had 11?? something like that of the wires were damaged or cut.
