I have a 1996 cherokee classic 4.0 automatic, it starts and runs fine but after I drive it for a while and if I shut off and go in to the store or shut it off for a few min it cranks but doesnt fire, if I let it set for a while 15-30 min it starts right up with no problem, temp is at normal range, I notice the fule pump doesnt seem to be kicking on when this happens so was thinking maybe relay or someone said maybe crank sensor?

I've only been here a short time and seen a few of these. What is up with Cherokee not starting? Mine was similar, but it doesn't crank. I have to jumper the starter to get it to turn over. I bought a hayes manual, but there was like a half a page on the subject.

It doesnt give any codes when it does it or when its running.

 

My XJ-94 did the same thing (not starting when warm) but never stalled when going. It turned out to be a burned out camshaft sensor (inside the dist.housing). I did get a code for it tho, 54 I think.
