1996 Windshield trim

Did something stupid this past weekend.

So, I have had a leak from the top of the windshield on the driver's side for the past few months. I wanted to try and fix myself, so I bought some silicone and a new trim molding, figured I could run a bead of silicone on top and install the new molding.

Fast forward, I pulled the old molding off, ran the bead, could not get the new trim molding in. Then I read somewhere that the trim molding has to go on the glass while the glass is removed from the vehicle. And then the whole windshield and trim are put on the Jeep as one piece.

Is this correct? Trim and windshield get fit together first, then glued onto pinchweld area with urethane?

If so, do I have to run a tiny bead of urathena on the trim groove that fits on the glass side?

Thanks for any advice. The rain storms of the past two days forced me to put a bucket on the drivers side. Major fail.

Not sure about windshield out to apply, but why don't you take it to an auto glass shop, they'd do it right and for probably 20 or 30 bucks.

Oh how had this issue for years before I finally replaced the gasket....
Leaked at the very top center and drips when it rains hard.
Silicon to the outside, Did not Help

To Replace the Windshield Gasket (Autozone Carries Them) Pull The Windshield OUT was not difficult. Just start from where it is leaking, it's already loose there :whistling2:

Place in the new Windshield Gasket and push the Windshield back on.

true but i keep reading stories of installers not doing the job right or cutting corners to save a few bucks. i may go that way but i already bought the new trim molding and the windshield removal tool. might as well give it a shot.

Thanks, DesertFox, what about the trim. Does it go on the glass before getting pushed into the Jeep, as one piece? or is there another method.

Trim goes around the windshield then pressed on.

I tried 3M polyurethane window caulk on mine, no luck. Window had to come out, new seal had to go in.
