1996 Cherokee vacuum canister & cruise control questions
Just got my Cherokee yesterday. 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country 4x4.
It has factory cruise control on the steering wheel. When I turn on the cruise, a little green light to indicate that it is on does not come on. When I try to engage cruise, the "CRUISE" lamp on the dash does not come on either.
I checked fuses and everything looks ok.
Then I opened the hood and found the servo - then noticed the vacuum line going towards the grill along the passenger side. The line went a short distance in front of the servo to a T connector. The front side of the T connector, where I assume the line to the vacuum canister in the bumper was supposed to be, had a bolt screwed in it...no line.
Someone stopped up that end of the T connector with a bolt.
I don't know yet if there is even still a vacuum canister in the bumper. If not, where can I get a replacement? More importantly right now, where can I get the line that runs from this T connector to the canister?
What does the vacuum canister control other than the cruise and the vent flaps to direct air to the defroster vents?

You can get a canister from the junk yard for a couple bucks...doesn't even really have to be for a jeep it just needs to hold a vacuum. My buddy and I toyed with the idea of using a brass toilette float just for comedic value but ended up using a stock one froom the yard.

Ok. So I checked and the can is there. The line is also there from the can to the T, most of the way. It is very broken and needs to be replaced.
Can I buy replacement vacuum hose at most any auto part store? Anyone know what to ask for?
Also, are there any other hoses in or out of the can? I don't see any more.

I just replaced the line on my 96 this morning. Just bring the broken line to any parts store near you and ask to match the ID of the hose. Get a few feet and you are set. My canister was missing and for some reason I had one in my garage. Not sure what it was off of, maybe my old XJ or TJ... but it fit.

[QUOTE=snakeyez;1427523]I need from here to the can.
That looks like the cheap plastic line on my '93.. mine was smaller diameter tho. I 'upgraded'? mine to rubber lines
My cruise doesn't work, I think because of a bad servo, but none of the lights work either. It's on my list of future fixes.
