1995 jeep xj 4.0 5psd transfer case swap.. changing to a np242?
 

a friend of mine just picked up a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Country 5spd 4x4 with a np231(command trac transfer case) he wants to know what he has to do and what he needs to add a np 242 (selec-trac) to his jeep Is it possible?.. I did a search and did not come up with any swaps for the 5spd... any help with this swap would be great thank you.. :)

He has a 231. the swap is possible, just match spline counts. Also you'll need to change the shifter gates and the linkage for the TC.

your rear driveshaft may also end up being too short after the swap, the 242 is physically shorter than the 231. I had this problem when I swapped to a 242 in my 94.
