Default 1995 Gas tank/sending unit

New here......my daughter has a 95 Cherokee sport which has been seeping around the sending unit......rust looks to be the culprit. Mechanic told me that unit is unavailable and other units may not work with existing gauges and read correctly. What experience does anyone have with this and what are my other options? New tank/aftermarket unit, etc???? I'm kind of a mechanical idiot....

95 shouldn't be a problem getting one?

Might just need a new gasket (rubber sealing ring).

That ring with ears on it, on the front of the tank is loosened by driving it counter clockwise with a brass, (or even oak) driver. (No sparks!) Then the pump/gauge sending unit can be carefully extracted out of the hole. You want to be down near 1/4 tank. Probably you can just clean it up and put it back right.

One poster said he had a real time of it, installing with the replacement ring he found. He ended up filing the little deals that need to grab before you can bash it on tight.

In your shoes I might just make sure it is tight. See if you can tap/drive the ears to turn the ring clockwise with something that won't make sparks.

OK, here's the deal. Looked at the problem a bit closer and found that the outlet barb on the sending unit going towards the fuel filter was rusted through......searched all the parts places I could and found no listings for this unit. Options, ideas, other year tanks/units that will fit under this? Just need a couple years more outta this thing to get her through college.

Maybe a regular wreckers. I think pick n pull pulls the tanks. Not sure there.
