1995 Cherokee temporariy stalls out.
1995 Grand Cherokee 4.0L, 2WD automatic. 138K miles. It will die while driving - tach goes straight to 0, no sputtering, just like you turned off the ignition switch. Pull over and wait 5 minutes or so, and it starts right up and runs fine. First happened about a month after I bought it. Checked several YouTube videos and decided to replace the PCM. (Cardone) It went 4 months with no problem. 2nd one lasted 2 days. Third one went two weeks. It never sputters first and always has residual fuel pressure in the rail, so I doubt it's a bad fuel pump. I'm having a hard time believing I've gotten 3 faulty ones from Cardone, although it usually has a trouble code that points to the PCM.
What other sensor, like a crank sensor, or electrical component could be causing this problem? Something that can 'spike' or surge momentarily, then cool off or regain contact in a short time. Doesn't seem related to weather, time of day, speed, etc.
Any advice from the veterans on this forum would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...
