1995 Auto Box Filter Change

Hi Guys

My Auto Box is due a fluid and filter change (54K Miles) but the haynes manual does not tell me how to do this!

Is it just the case of drian remove sump and replace filter reverse op and refill?

On the back of the passenger side head there is a bolt securing the dipstick tube. Remove it. Place a drain pan under the trans sump and pull the drain plug. Remove all the pan bolts and carefully pry the pan loose. Carefully remove the pan by snaking the dipstick tube along the firewall, don't damage anything inside the tranny. R&R the filter. Clean all surfaces, RTV the gasket, reassemble using recommended torque and proper torque sequence and torquing procedures. Replenish with proper amount of DEX/Merc III or Jeep spec ATF and you are ready to roll.

Yeah, what he said. You need only drop the pan far enough to pull the filter for cleaning and to clean the pan/trans mating surfaces. You'll probably find that it is sealed with RTV instead of a gasket. I think you'll find the exhaust in the way of removing pan bolts and dropping the pan.

If you're in a hurry or don't have much time, at least drain the pan and refill with ~4L.

HI Guys

Thanks for the advise, will be taking the cat/Muffler off so should be out of the way.
