I just replaced the distributor cap, wire, rotors and champion spark plugs and 02 sensor in my 1990 Laredo. It runs great BUT... it idles low now... 250-400 rpm.
I think I heard somewhere that idle should be between 600-700ish.
If this is correct, why would mine be idling lower? It's a self-adjusting system, so you're not supposed to adjust the timing manually, so I dont' know where to troubleshoot.
Would you guys have any suggestions?
Thanks so much.

you can up the idle if you want. there is an udjusting screw on the throttle body pivot. you need an allen wrench. Put it in drive and block the wheels. Idle acording to the spec from the emission sticker should be 750.
Does it run smoother now? are you having any other drivability issues? If not then I would just adjust the idle and run it for a few days.
Hope this helps.

Cleaning the tb is a good idea and will definitely add to the vehile running better. I just put forth that he could up his idle. Some dont see the screw. Test the TB cleaning will most definitely make it idle better but my suggestion was that if he did basic tune up and the idle smoothed out then even with the IAC and throttle body cleaned he most likely would have to raise the idle to match Specs. With it running rougher before the computer would get conflicting readings and adjust on the fly to compensate making it idle a little higher.

Take it off, separate the TPS and the stepper motor (the electronic stuff), get some gas in a pan and brush it everywhere. If u take it in pieces remember how the throttle was mounted in the body, it has a verse.
