Default 1990 jeep cherokee wont start! help:)

hi i just bought my jeep, it runs great motor wise but today it wouldnt start. no sounds, no clicks, no nothing. im thinking this is something electrical because it works when it wants to. can someone let me know what could be wrong and what i should do, i dont want to take into a shop completely blind and over pay for the work. there is an exposed wire coming from the negative battery cable into the back of the motor area, im guessing silinoid but im not sure at all. PLEASE HELP!!

If your getting absolutely nothing when u turn key it sounds like battery connection problem. Make sure your pos and neg cables r in good shape. Clean terminals well with tool. Make sure connections are nice and tight.

the battery is new and connections are fine. just the exposed part on the negative wire more towards the motor. Everything is cleaned and tightened. I immediately called my dad and he thinks its a stater or starter connected issue, hes drove a jeep all my life. If yall have any other suggestions let me know, I just need to start one time.

i am no expert by any means but i have two 90s that ive had alot of issues with. there is a a starter relay down on the fenderwell. it has a lot of wires on a bolt lug and a few spade terminals (i think 4) it might be a place to start.

Despite the title of the video, this won't work on a Renix jeep ('87 - '90). The codes aren't stored... It only works on '91 - '96.
In other years the codes can be retrieved, but the process is different:

Try starting it in neutral. If this works, you have a Neutral Safety Switch problem.

it may be the sensor that says that your car is in park that wont let it start until its in park so check that giggle, the shifter.

That click is the solenoid activating.... don't know your resources but you ought to check the voltage on the wire from the solenoid to the starter while you or someone else holds the key on start. If you have good voltage the starter motor is probably gone. That happened to mine. I would turn the key and get a click and if I kept trying eventually the motor would go and it would start. Also try giving the starter motor a couple firm whacks with a hammer then try starting it. If it works your starter is probably going out.
