Default Long trip planned, what are common things that go wrong so can bring some spare parts

So i have to travel aprox 800kms in my xj up a few mountain passess, to go for some job interviews in vancouver. and back a couple days later
I am taking my 1991 xj 4.0 auto, with 410,000kms on it with a lifter tick. I bought this thing a few months ago for 400 bucks. i guess its not in terrible shape, however PO did not maintain it very well.
So wondering what some common things for failure are, so i can make a list of some spares to take with me

When is your trip? Have you done basic maintenance on it such as coolant hoses, TB clean, ISC clean, fluid changes, complete inspection of driveline and suspension? If you haven't done so, I suggest doing that. After that, hard to find parts to bring would be a CPS sensor, ISC sensor, and TPS sensor. Two gallons of oil and coolant for emergencies and maybe 2 quarts of gear oil should also be with you as well. Basically anything that can easily fail and strand you, you should bring. Other parts can probably be sourced easily so bring common tools with you. However, if you throw a rod out the block, then god help you. If you do basic maintenance then you shouldn't have to worry much about whether or not she'll make it. Also JB weld can be useful for quick fixes for sprung leaks.

Good list. Agree especially on keeping a spare CPS, rather than pay highway-robbery prices for a low end part in the middle of nowhere.
Oh, and bring a credit card. If you can pay for repairs.....you won't need them

Change your coolant hoses if you haven't done so yet. Too many times people get stranded because the hoses burst and spew coolant all over. I've had it happen while riding shotgun in my buddy's Acura. Check especially around where the clamps are because those are the weak spots. If they burst, it'll definitely be at the clamps. Also verify there's no squealing noises coming from the pulleys. A seized compressor or alternator will definitely ruin your serpentine belt in no time and strand you. Matter of fact, throw a spare serpentine belt in the trunk as well. Also bring some tire plugs for quick fixes if you get a nail. You can throw the spare on and repair the tire with the hole and fill it up at the next rest stop.
