Wow, not expecting that. You are missing a lot of large chunks of metal. Was there oil in it? im not sure if you were actually pumping oil to the wheel bearings in your scenario . Everything in that rear is now suspect. Who puts a diff like that hat back into a truck? What good is a ring gear without the matching pinion? Replaced the ring gear only on an old Monte in my younger days.....growld and vibrated like the devil....replaced the whole rear two days later

Will probably remove the front drive shaft for now, and get the rear axle fixed or replaced to get 2WD working. This is a Dana 35, right? If I wind up replacing with a 44, what year parts cars should I be looking at for a whole assembly?
Replace with a later model (29 spline?) 8.25 rear end. Common and perfectly good for your needs, and you can put a traction device (i.e. some type of locker) in there if you want. Others will know better what years to look for but the 8.25 came in other models as well I believe.

EDIT: see this thread with some info HERE

That looks like someone turned it into a trailer axle.

Have acquired a Chrysler 8.25 from a '99 4WD Cherokee. Will my existing drive shaft bolt right up or do I need to start looking for a new drive shaft also?

By the way, I've asked admin three times to change my user name since I screwed up and used my email.... No response. Are they actually monitoring the forum?
