1988 comanche 5 speed trans questions
Hey Guys,
so I just bought this, and I'm trying to get to know it.
can anyone tell me where the fill and drain plugs are for the 5 speed (peugot I guess) trans?
also, does anyone have a picture of the linkage for the 4x4 or a good explanation with regards to the connection (I have a worn out bushing on the body side that pivots, and a bracket that looks like it should mount to the trans to hold it tight, which is just flopping around. I lubed it all up and freed it up, but from up top; I shift to 4low to get it into 4high, its definitely slacking, I just need to know how it links up.
thanks!

I don't recall exactly where the fill/drain plugs are, but they can be identified by having square drive recesses.
NB: The plugs take an 8m/m or 5/16" square drive! The easiest way I've found to make one is to get a cheap 8m/m or 5/16" hex wrench (they're effectively the same size) and gently grind down two opposite corners to make the hex key fit in a square recess. It doesn't take much grinding! I'll have to find one of the ones I did and take pictures of it, and you'll see what I mean...

arghh!!!!!!
I just got done fighting with that plug. I saw some vice grip marks on it, and figured that was it, found 3/8 drive too big, and nibbled it with a burr to try to widen it, arghh!!!!! I wasted so much time on that.
thanks for the heads up, I'll have to find an extra 5/16 hex laying around, and by now probably add some material to it, I screwed up on that, badly.

Here is a pic of a peugeot x-fer case linkage on an XJ.... I assume it is the same as with yours. (The X-fer case is out in this pic, but I think you get the idea).
