1985 jeep cherokee for $500??
ok so i got a buddy who just got back from iraq and he just got a new rig, so he's selling his jeep. its 1985 cherokee with the 2.8L V6 w/ a 3" lift and 31's. he says it runs but needs a new carb or needs the existing one rebuilt, which isnt a big deal. im going to take a look today and i'll snap some pics.
What does everyone think? is it worth the $500 to have a strictly trail rig that i can beat to ****??

ok so went and took a quick look...has some minor body damage (rockers, doors) but very little rust, D35 in the rear/ D30 vacuum disco, some OK 31's, 3" lift w/ AAL's (looks like RC) thats saggin a bit, interior looks clean, havent driven it yet so havent pulled the trigger yet...what does every one think? good platform for chop top and 350 swap?

go for it. it looks great but that 2.8 got to go. i had a blazer with that motor in it. i put 4 motors in it. the 5th motor was the 4.3 and i never had problems with that. the body rotted away befor the motor went again

huh thats funny cause i have a 1988 S10 blazer with the 2.8L V6 that just turned 210,000 miles and never had a problem with it. and i planned on wheelin it till the motor blew then droppin in a 350 or a stroked 4.0L any way so....

good Jeep, good price. as long as you realize the amount of work it needs. i know XJs are not that cheap, but I've seen some around that price that were 87-88 models with minor issues like waterpump or faded paint. i'm not trying to be a mood killer or a negative, believe me. but just remind yourself that there are a lot of good deals out there. on that note, if I had $500 to play around with and another motor nearby, I would definitely consider that. worst case scenario it will give you a little reason to get a little creative or build an absolutely sick XJ.

i like the way you think and believe me i realize the amount of work it could potentially need, but the images of a sick *** XJ keep running through my mind, so it doesnt really bother me. especially when i want a chop top trail rig that i can go insane with...
