10" brake drum models?
Good morning guys n gals.
I've had close to a dozen xj's and don't think I've ever had one with 10" brakes in rear. Which ones had the 10" upgrade and will that swap to the 8.25 axles? And how wide are the 10" shoes? Are they the same 2.5" like the 9"? Thanks |
I think the 10 inch drum setup was on the tow package xj with a dana44 rear. not sure if itll swap to the 8.25. Might have been 87-89 maybe...

Near as I can tell, the 10-inch brakes were only available on the Dana 44. Also, the 9-inch brakes make up for their lack in diameter with a 2.5" wide shoe over the 10-inch's 1.75" wide shoe

I believe the "police package" models had the 10" also.

The 10" drum has a brake surface width spec listed as 2.13" I feel like you would need new backing plate for it to work if you already have the 9". Unless you found it from a worthy doner vehicle, it may acutally be easier to swap to disc on the rear. |
Thanks Guys.. I was just wondering. The stock setup works well for now but I think I'll swap over to the Grand's rear disc and prop valve when I get the V8 in her.
