06 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Engine Tapping
I am working on a 06 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7L. It was driven about 1600 miles on a road trip when the check engine light began flashing on/off, then come on solid, and alternate between the two. There was a tapping noise coming from the engine that was noticed during a stop for fuel. I checked for DTCs and had P0307 on top of P0305, P0307, and P2097 as pending codes.
Checked the primary and secondary resistance of the coils, they were good.
Pulled the plugs and #7 looks almost as if it arced across the contacts.
Changed all the plugs, still tapping, no engine codes.
Suspected a collapsed lifter on #7, replaced both for #7. Still tapping.
Listened a bit closer and it sounds like it is coming from under the intake.
Also changed the oil and filter, 5W30, and a quart of Marvel Mystary Oil.
Anyone have any recommendations?
