Default 01 XJ New to me and I want to get fatter!!!

Hi all, first post for me.
I just picked up an 01 Cherokee Sport 2dr. I found the forum and Ive been reading for 6 days on and off, tons of information. Thanks! I have a problem with stock wheels and tires so I'm looking to replace them. I've searched through the forum and just want some confirmation before I place my order to make sure I'll be good to go. I have no lift at this time and If I get one it will be a couple of years in the future.

Questions

Stock backspace is 5.25 correct? If I go with 4.00, this will make my wheels stick out further by 1.25 inches?

Looking at the chart in the lift/tire thread, it suggests I can use a 265/70/R15, I currently have 235/75/R15. I have no lift and standard fender flares, my suspension height is at standard 17" and 17.5" Using the larger tire (265/70) increases the height and width of the tire correct?

From what I have found here the alloys on my Jeep could be either 15x7 or 15x8, I am looking at Cragar soft 8's at 15x8 size 4.00 backspace. My goal is street use only, all weather tires with a fat or wider look/stance The 265/70's and change in backspace achieve this correct? Can I go with a wider tire still? Such as a 255/65 or 60?

So with all this info, will my plans work? any rubbing or driveability issues? And I live in Oregon and Texas as far as legal sticking out issues if any

If nothing else, thanks for reading this, thanks for any advice, and thanks to all for all your tips and expertise in general.
Dan

I am still trying to figure out all the tire mumbo jumbo so have fun lol. I know my rims are 15x7 with 4.5 back spacing and they stick out about an inch on each side. Tire size well i run 30's and my truck sits about and inch higher than my wives on 235's.

hard call, and i aint doing it. id venture to say stick with the 235's but i understand your delema, i think a 235 with a 15x8 rim should look a little more wide but id try gettin the rims and then going to your local tireshop and having them fit your tires, you may spend a buck or two more, but you'll have the true answer.
