Default 00 XJ Won't Turn Off

OK So this morning I got up and ran to the store to by my family some milk and my dog some dog food. I got in my XJ and it started like normal. When I get back from the store 10 - 15 minutes later. I go to turn my XJ off. I turn my key back and nothing happens. So I end up pulling the fuel pump relay and stalling the engine. Then I remove one of the battery terminals so my battery wouldn't die. Now I can't get it to turn back on with the key. When I turn the key there's hardly any resistance and nothing happens. I've been searching for a while and I haven't found a solution. This is my daily and I'm stuck starting and killing my engine in messed up ways till I get it fixed. Help!

Sounds like you need to replace the ignition switch.

OK. Thank you do you know of a good write up that you could link here? Sorry that my first post was poorly written. I was in a rush at the time to get to work. Next time I'll take advice from your signature. Thanks for the help I really appreciate it!

Y'know, I do think I remember someone posting a link to a write-up on the ignition switch, but I have no idea where to find it!

Can anyone help out with this?

EDIT: Found a couple of threads that might help:

And maybe some Youtube vids.

hi..it could be the ignition actuator pin thats broken..my xj wouldn't crank last week...turned out to be the actuator pin had broken off at the point where it enters the ignition switch..quite an easy job to fix..but of course you will need a new actuator pin..good luck.

Hi, guys! I'm back after reading all of your wonderful links and finding time between college and work; I decided to dive in and take stuff apart. Once I had all the panels and coverings off I removed everything in between the ignition lock to the ignition switch, and it did end up being the actuator pin the broke off in the ignition switch. So after various trips to the parts store and a good $100 spent she still wasn't fixed and it ended up being a blown fuse along with all other broken parts that added up to my problem. If anybody wants to know what fuse it was I can find the diagram and link it here. Thanks, guys and I hope that in the future you can help me with more stuff!!!
