00' Jeep XJ Sport (fuel gauge always reading empty)

Hey, I forgot to mention, that a while back about a year after I bought my Jeep. the Jeep was running fine until one morning I went to start it. When I started it I noticed that in the bottom left side of the dash that It was sitting on empty, even though I had filled it up all the way the previous night. I had not driven it anywhere. Please help, for the past few months I have been using the trip meter just to calculate the miles i drive, and I just need some ideas on whats causing this issue. Thanks, any ideas would be appreciated.:wallbash:

You probably have a bad sending unit. IIRC the sending unit and pump are a single assembly and you have to drop the tank to replace it.
Since that's an awful lot of work, I'd start by checking/cleaning all your grounds, including and especially the two behind the trim panel in the trunk on the drivers side.
This is a free and easy thing to do. Probably won't fix the problem, but do it anyway just to be sure.
Next I'd see if you can get to the connector without dropping the tank.. on my 00 TJ I could.. Disconect it and make sure all the contact points are clean and shiny and put some di-electric grease in there and reconnect it.
If that doesn't fix it, you're probably looking at dropping the tank and replacing the fuel pump assembly.
Personally I'd live with the gauge not working if the pump is OK since pumps are expensive and you're looking at a good chunk of time to drop the tank.

250 miles for my jeep is the safe mark, Unless you wanna drop that full tank of gas because it is a pain doing it 3 times ( And no a full tank isnt light) also the sending unit is built into the whole fuel pump assembly itself.
