'00 and '01 XJ ECU problems
hello all fellow JEEP folk. new to the site and forums in general. proud owner of an '89 WRANGLER and '01 CHEROKEE. question i have is- does anyone have any info on the '00 and '01 XJ having ECU issues. i think they were referred to as the POWERTECH 4.0. is there a swap available? a company that makes an aftermarket? 50,000 miles original and my electrical is a wreck right now. any info would be appreciated.
p.s.- if this has been covered before, please give me a link.

The ecu is a common issue among most chrysler vehicles. The best way to solve this one, unfortunatly, is to take it to the dealer. A reman ecu is around $200. Theyre hard to come across in junkyards because you have to match some numbers or somthing to due with the serial numbers. Im not 100% sure but youre better off going to the stealership on this one

Must be afull moon tonight.
how in world is anyone supposed to help if you don't provide some information relavent to the problems you are having.
What I got from your post:
Your wiring is a mess and you're blaming it on the PCM.
Huh?
What is the EXACT problem your having?

You don't even know what the problem is and you're telling hm to go to the dealer?
Does that really make any sense?

Had a quick look , no major pcm issues listed with chrysler, as Frank z asked, what kind of issues do you have? It is very unlikley that your pcm is at fault imo.

im sorry folks. more details. i have a "no bus" on my odometer, when i turn on my fog lights my rear window wiper turns on, when i turn on the headlights for more than 90 seconds the tach starts FLUTTERING all over the place and the check engine light comes on, use the power door locks and it honks the horn and i have spent $900+ at the dealer for them to tell me my wiring is hooked up correctly and that my 50000 mile JEEP has a bad computer. WTF! any advice would be appreciated. should i just fork out the cash for a new one that could possibly go bad early again?

The "No Buss" message is usually caused by a bad/dirty connection at the gauge cluster. Remove the cluster, clean the contacts, re-assemble.
Let's see what happens after that.

The problem you are describing looks like a bad ground in the gauge/steering wheel area. This is the most likely cause. Another possibility is the bad connector.
In any case, the replacement of the ECU will most likely NOT fix your problem.
