upload issue...

Have my image uploads been shut down? Just spent an hour on the phone with my carrier and the problem seems to originate from here... And?

This isn't the only forum to be affected like this. CherokeeTalk has been hit too. In addition, every post after 4/10 has disappeared and all the photos gone. It isn't photobucket, it works on other forums now. They have done something to the server and I predict it will get worse

Thank you. :) So it's falling apart then? Man... hate to see that.

Not sure if it is permanent or not. On another forum where I am a moderator, the vBulletin software was upgraded for security purposes. There is a new version that is better at blocking bots. The owner of the forum upgraded and things were not the same for awhile. He worked on it and eventually got it working pretty well. But it just isn't quite as smooth as before. There is hope, however there will be some rough spots

They always seem to do that for some reason and it is a pain... They build an update/upgrade but it always seems to depreciate some of the prior existing plugins or features. They tend to add and take away at the same time and it drives me crazy because of the extra work they have created. Wish they would just leave the already existing stuff which works fine alone and just add on top of it instead of depreciating stuff and causing unnecessary havoc. lol

If it ain't broke don't touch it... :)

Bugout4x4 06-25-2018 11:06 AM

And it looks like there might be some depreciation happening on here. The current Vbulletin version is 3.9.3.5 so this hasn't been upgraded for quite awhile. The most recent is 5.4.2

Someone might be asleep at the wheel...

The problem I find with upgrades and security is that you trade security for more memory and processor speed and sometimes architecture to run it. I currently have to have three gigs of memory just to boot up and it makes everything run slower

This is one of the reasons I just went to Linux on my PC. The Win 10 resource demand for their failed security structure just wasn't going to happen for me. Best thing I ever did and I have no clue why I never did it sooner.

Very very minimal resource demand, unmatchable security by nature because of the kernel, fantastic support community, and it is now even much more superior than Win 7. All the open source software available for Linux is just incredible. :)

I run a Mac, but have a Windows 10 virtual machine to run my business software, which is Windows only, and unfortunately they don't support Vista anymore. Runs Windows perfectly and no hiccups. But I am not happy with how the Windows system software works, no hiccups or not

Yep... Win 10 has become a huge unnecessary resource hog, they gobble every extra bit they can and don't leave any for you and your stuff. And it's just going to get worse... MS just doesn't understand the words "enough already". Here's one for you... Even MS is now using Linux for their "in house" systems because it is so much better than their own stuff. lol

How hard would it be for you to make a change to another businessware program? Huge or small? There are some very capable and powerful business platforms for linux. In fact most huge companies are moving to linux and this is one of the markets where linux and related platforms are outshining all the others, and just exactly because of the minimal resource requirements. :)

This might be a very viable option to invest towards the future because MS has gone beyond all rationality and it's just going to get worse. You may be putting off the inevitable like I was. :)

Setting up and running a linux system alongside your existing system until everything is ironed out just might be a good move towards the future. Preventative maintenance per say...

I would do that if I could. This is not a normal "business" program. It you build a virtual home in it and run it through various climate models depending on location to measure energy usage. I am locked into the one I am running and there is no way around it. The calculations are intense, about one minute of crunching with windows machines and about 2o seconds on the Mac Pro. On windows machines they just throw up after a little use. I can run the Mac as hard and fast as I can click on stuff all day without a mistake

If you don't mind me asking what type of business is it? Sales? Service? Supply? Because I have actually been researching linux ware for my own business and maybe I will run across the perfect program options for your needs too. :)

Oh I see... Virtual architectural home climate control depending on geographic climate models then?

Lol... read it again.... Energy calculations. I get it. Very specialized service. So I understand now. Is it related to HVAC work then?

You know... this is something very few know about, but you can run Windows based programs using linux. I have personally not tried this yet because I am brand new to linux but from what I understand it works just fine.

In a sense. I am a HERS Rater (there are no HIMS Raters) :D I am an energy rater and can do a lot of things, but hole house energy ratings for tax purposes is what I specialize in.
