Rep System

Just a question.

Why has the Admin chose to not use the Reputation System supplied by VBulletin. Personally, I like it. I could see how it'd could be majorly abused...

Has it ever been given a try?

I've never paid any attention to it. What's it for?

Basically, it gives you the ability to tell everyone whether I know what the hell I'm talking about or not... IF it's not abused.

From VBulletin:

User Reputation in its simplest form is a ranking of your user's benefit to your forum. Its basis comes from the opinions of all of your forum users that choose take part in it.

Users gain and lose reputation based on how their posts are scored by other forum participants. Users with the ability to affect reputation, will either give or take aways points by approving or disapproving with a post's content.

User reputation can be a divisive element of your forum so great care should be taken before a decision is made to enable it.

Rep system is more about popularity and not quality, professionalism, or any value that is truly accurate for a value of knowledge. Seen many sites try it only to have them removed later.

Your collective postings will speak for themselves.

I agree with weather. If people used the rep system as intended then yes it would be a good tool, however, most people probably wouldn't. Besides if your on here long enough you learn who to listen to. For instance djb383 is knowledgable about heating and cooling systems (I think he's on every overheating thread) also cruiser54 is one of the guys to go to for you renix era jeeps (there are a few others in that category but at the moment names escape me) cruiser also chimes in on just about every renix question out there. That's just a few examples and I'm sure I'm missing tons of other people but I didn't want to make a huge list.
