Default Nathan - I have an issue!!!!!!!

I happened to log on earlier as aguest just to see how many ads are present. I was looking at the Mcain/Palin thread and at the bottom of the screen the is a HUGE banner for the Mcain website.

What I want to know is this, when did this site start putting political banners up? I don't care if it is for Obama, Mcain, or the mayor of your town, they don't belong on here, even for guests. This is a JEEP forum. Put as many jeep related ads as you want, but leave out the political crap. I think any of those political threads should be kept backstage, but that isn't up to me.

I am a paid supporter of CF, but if the political banners don't disappear you can kiss my support goodbye. I really hope this is not the sign of things to come with this site!

The only ads we are running are Google Adsense ads that are totally contextually based. They are the same ads that Don was running.

The one problem is that it takes a little while for our Adsense account to get adjusted to this new site and show relevant ads. Actually it shouldn't take long but we don't really have to much control over what Google shows.

Does that make sense? It's either taking a little while for the right ads to show up or those ads are showing up on all adsense sites because that's all we run.

We don't run political ads unless Adsense shows them for some reason.

Chances are during this lead up to the elections both candidates are going to spend a bundle on advertising. There is a chance they paid Google off to show their ads on all sites... even sites that arent' relevant to political topics. These are called Run of Network ads and they are just designed to reach as many people as possible. Just like when your watching TV.

So once again, we don't purposfully run political ads but adsense might be running them on all sites right now.

Not sure what else to say. It's not our intention.

OK, I understand. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a decision made by CF. Thank you for the explaination.

in their defense, it probably popped up because the word mccain, and palin was all over that thread also. kinda makes it relevant.

Google adsense ads are a HUGE pain. They scrape words out of each post and then poof just like magic you get an ad relating to those words...

On another forum, relating to a PS football game, we put the words snowplow into the bottom of every post for a couple of days.. and Wa-La all kinds of ads for Snow plows started showing up.

Why are you telling me what they are?

I asked Tom if it was a Google ad. I figured it was and already knew why they were showing up.
