Default COTM changes

I saw this on another forum and rather liked the idea...

My proposal is that we have "themed" COTM contests, instead of just an open call every month.

Examples:
Full cage rigs
stockers
colors
regional
comanches (GASP!)
doorless
etc
etc

I think it would spice things up and give some people a chance to win where they may not have had as good of a chance before, like a really nice stockish rig vs a really built crawler - 9 times out of 10 the crazy built rig will win.

I dig the idea! Maybe plan out the themes for the year, so people know when to plan on running...?

I like it. it'll give it a new flavor and hopefully see some better competition. Like you said, dukie, it's tough on a member with a stock/lightly built rig who enters and ends up going against someone like DaveVmax or lowrange2, who have pretty built/modified rigs.

I like the idea but, I'd be cautious about slicing the pie to thinly. I think "off-road" and "daily driver" could be two more general classifications. I think there are definitely some who go for a clean/smooth appearance vs. super-prepared and accessorized cherokees. It might be nice to be comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges.

That said, it might be nice to tailor the themes to specific months. (Christmas/Holiday - December, Halloween - October, Stars & Stripes - July and etc.)

I wouldn't - judging from the number of COTM entries i see in the submission thread every month there is no problem with not having enough people to fill the entry ballots for themed COTMs.

and really how would you prove "off-road" or "daily driver" - those describe 90% of the jeeps on this forum.

x2, mine is my DD that I take offroad as often as possible. There's no clear definition there. I would say groups like dukie said:
Stock -2"
3-4.5"
4.5" +
Chopped/caged
doorless/half doors
colors
Grands
Comanches
1st gen XJ's
2nd gen XJ's

It gives a much clearer definition of what is allowed for that particular month

The themes should rotate each year. Schedule the themes in advance so folks can (well not really) plan their buiild to enter in time.

I also think there should be a one time only "cleanest stock" cherokee.

if we do that I think we should break it into 2 tiers. Idk how much work it is putting together COTM each month,
but I think there should be 2 polls, 1 for advanced level rigs and 1 for themed/smaller rigs etc.
that way more people get to participate and everyone likes to vote twice

There won't be 2 polls each month. We will run one poll each month and can change the theme each month or something. If we ran 2 a month eventually you'd start seeing the same rigs just in cycle.

I agree with all of that except the 'Color' category and advance notice on the theme.

If it were me, you'd get the theme on the first of that month or in the final "Congratulations Winner" thread from the previous month.
