What needs to be moderated? It's chat. Chat on other forums I'm on (and you too, if I'm not mistaken) aren't moderated and it does well.

Chat would actually benefit from getting reamed out when you go a little off subject in a thread post. Along with trying to help out a fellow Jeeper making a sale with adding his location for him since he was not signed on at the time. Not to mention when a laughing smiley is made after a comment it's meant to be a joke and the thread gets closed. Sometimes it's like walking on eggshells around here. I understand people say stupid *** but take it down a notch.

Pish!!! Yeah right! Have you seen O/T lately? I feel that chat would cut down on the amount off chit chat 700,000 post threads that seem to come up every single day. You can't tell me that 100% of the threads on this Forum are strictly for tech.
Have you not seen the threads that pop up where some kid had to say "Good Morning, CF" before he/she had their mom drop them off at school in the morning?

Wikipedia's definition of Forum -- An Internet forum, or message board, is an online discussion site where people can hold conversations in the form of posted messages.[1] They differ from chat rooms in that messages are at least temporarily archived.
Here's the problem, everyone has done their Jeep set up a different way so it's very easy to ask about something off subject that the other person you are talking to has done. They may have more than one thing that you'd like to know about. Are you supposed to start a whole other thread to ask that person a question about another mod that they did? The whole forum thing is about discussion. If you wanted just tech information, just go to the dealer website.
I think chat would be a cool idea. I think it could open a world of possibilities up for the forum.

If the owners want it and we don't have to moderate it then I really don't care.
I do agree with Lyon that sometimes it is like walking on egg shells around here. In my eyes anyone should be able to pop in ask a tech question in any of the tech areas without anyone bashing them. Who cares if it's been asked 1000 times either answer it or move on. It takes far more time to ***** about it than to actually answer the damn questions.
Ok back on topic here. If members want a chat option then I'll propose it to the owners. Will we get it it, dunno but never hurts to ask. I will say this it won't be available to the general forum populace. One thing we do not want is a bunch of kids on it. Only way to protect the site is well make it for paying members only that way you are either 18 or atleast the parent who signed up can take some responsibility for little Joe's actions.
So with that said post up the options that you guys have used on other sites for us to take a gander at.

I've seen a bunch of different Chat's used. Envolve (The link I posted at the top) has been the best I've used.

Evolved looks a lot like what facebook uses. Personally I don't care as long as it integrates in with everyones VB Username. We can not nor will we have a chat app that uses a username outside of the forum login.
Any other options out there? I'd like to see what other sites are using.

Was looking at evolved and I don't think it will work with this site/company. It's more of a copy and paste of code that links to their chat servers. Now there is a plugin that allows single login but it's still sending and receiving data from that site. Plus you pay a monthly fee and not a simple buy the software license and done. Seems it's more like pay a monthly fee and link a chat app on the site. So not going to work with our model. We need something where we can purhcase/download the app, install and be done. We need total control over it and it can not be linking to another site to collect data, log in and so on.
