bad battery gauge, voltage regulator?

So for about a week my check gauge light would come on and my heat was weak...then it would shut off and e erything went back to normal. Then a week ago i noticed the battery gauge was all the way down. My wipers slowed stereo fli, ckered and the car died. ( 97 country btw). Since i was driving i immediately assumed alternator. I took it out and brougt it in to get tested. Ran two tests and it was fine. So i put it back in and tested my battery, turned out to be bad. I put in a new battery and by the next day the battery the gauge was down and the check gauge light were back on. Now when i go out t thecar in the mrning and after work the gauge is about 2/3 down and within. a mile it drops, light goes back on
Is something wrong withthegauge oris something draining the battery? It would seem like quite the coincidence if my battery died the same time my gauge was just going bad.

Any help would be appreciated, trying to get this fixed over the weekend.

Thanks

You need to post this in the OEM Technical forum.

I'd say the alternator is bad or on it's way out.

Well i took the alt out again to replace it, ran another 8 tests in it and it was working within it's range.the guy said he honestly believes it's done and to check the connections/Brekky when i put it back on. I'm stumped now. Gauge is fine but that happened before too, then would drop after a few miles. We'll see now, I'm about to drive it to work.
