Default 05 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 Question

New to working on my Cherokee as it was recently given to me and am looking into getting some insight on a repair. The last few months my vehicle has only been able to fill up a little over half a tank. A friend advised me to replace the Evap Canister which I did, but upon talking to another friend that was pointless as it did nothing, but also because I was told it would have no bearing on the issue. Can someone point me in the right direction as to where I need to hear with this? I was told that it might be fuel pump related or that the gauges are wrong.

I think the gauge is wrong. Get yourself a gas can in case you run out and just drive it until it does. That will tell you whether the gauge is right or not. If it is the gauge, you might need to re establish the ground for the gauge

I do know when the Evap was swapped that the original had no smell whatsoever of gasoline. I will let my brother in law know also as he has been assisting with.

If there was a problem with the evap system, there'd most likely be a 'Check Engine' light on. If you quickly turn the key from 'Off' to 'On' but NOT start the Jeep three times in succession, and leave it in 'On' after the third time, the DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) will display on the screen, followed by the word 'DONE' after all the codes have been displayed.
