Welcome to our new server

I just finished moving CherokeeForum.com to our new server. I also took advantage of this time to upgrade the forum software to the most recent release.

If you notice any problems with the site or your account please let me know and I'll look into it right away.

Thanks!

Thanks Nathan. It seems faster than the old server. Is it alot bigger to increase the speed and capacity.

Yeah server definitely seems snappier...Nah blue they had their own server so it was just a matter of backing everything up and transferring with the hardest part moving the database ..that can sometimes be a bit of a trick...lol

Don was on a shared server with a webhost. We have the benefit of having access to two dedicated servers one in Washington DC and one in Dallas. This site is on the one in Dallas along with a few other sites. The server is a beast and should be able to handle a lot of growth.

Glad to hear you can tell the difference.

Is the new server a shared server with other duties? I have no idea how these things work. Do you own the server or rent space on it or join a group that uses it? As I say I have no idea.

I lease a server that no one else has access to but me. So, I control 100% of it's resources and it's basically like owning it. I just don't have to worry about keeping spare parts around because the company I lease from is responsible for that..

I do have a few other sites on here (maybe 10) but a shared server can have hundreds of other sites on it. Our server specs are also way overkill too. We like to keep things fast!

Thanks Nathan, I learned a little today!!! Impossible as it sounds!!

Yeah most hosting companies oversell their resources hence why shared hosts tend to be slow especially during peak hours.. Glad to hear it's on a dedicated that also makes things a tough more secure from a personal info stand point...Server is likely running some flavor of Linux or BSD using MySQL...Ahh the good ole days of being a network admin..:)
