Stepping down from CF
This forum started off as a great, family friendly, fairly drama free, extremely knowledgable place to come talk about our Jeeps and stayed that way until it got bought. Was there the occasional drama? Yeah, of course; people love hiding behind their computer screens. But it was taken care of and everyone moved on. Now, not much.
A lot of times change is good and needed. This time though, not so much. And I think it really shows in how much less time the real veterans of CF (not post count titles, bit those who have been on here much longer than I) are spending on here.

Why not create a new forum? A non-profit? Members will simply pay, if they would like, to keep maintenance costs taken care of. The more members, the less each one pays. I run a small non-profit club with 3 other guys and it's doing just fine. We have over 50 members and we have one of the members as a moderator because he wanted to be more than just a member. He moderates the facebook page and takes care of any unwanted posts or arguments between members. Now we don't have a website, but I want to start one soon. By the way, everything in my club is volunteer and everyone helps everybody out. When we have events, each person that goes to that event will bring food or some type of thing for the event. Totally non-profit and no club dues, so it doesn't become a business.

I think many of is have thought of that but we have thousands of.hours of.pur time invested into CF and don't want it to fail. I think we are just at a growing pain right now. If we learn to ignore.... And I mean completely ignore people who troll then they'll learn that this isnt a place for them and move on. But the more we feed them the more they'll troll.
So the best thing I offer is this. If someone is starting drama. Don't reply. Don't mention it or them and just ignore it. If they are acting civilized then by all means join in the convo. Keep conversations headed in the right direction and according to the rules. Let's keep the drama out (no matter how bad somebody irks you or pushed your buttons) and let's be what the jeep community is supposed to be.

I'm still trying to figure out why folks have their knickers in a knot......
Did something specific happen?
So far all I've seen in this thread is that 1 mod is pissed about something and is leaving.
That's it.

I choose not to reveal any details, but long story short, most of the moderators (maybe even all of them) are not happy with some descisions made by the owners of the site, and some unanimous descisions of the moderators have even been reversed by the owners.
The remaining moderators are trying to work through it and we hope to come to a comprimise, although we ultimately might just have to suck it up if we want to stay.

I'm as actually a part of quite a few forums much larger tthan this. Gun related, jeep related, and related to my professions. Every one has it. Some are better at merging with like threads than others because they have more mods or have more experienced members. We are a site that welcomes new people to the family .d with that cones all the common posts of people who are new. Do I think, "hey try the search.feature!"? Absolutely. But then I use my reason to think about where they are coming from and the idea that the jeep community is a family and that's not how I talk to family. If newb questions bother you then skip over it. You can tell from the thread title. If you insist on reading it then grow up and post something constructive. If you can't do that then either don't post or find somewhere else to vent about it.

Among others do a much better job of post reconcilation. I am not sure about Nasioc, but I believe the others are fan based run versus a corporate site.
While I am somewhat complaining, its not a big deal for me right now, nor is this really the time. As someone said, this is only one person posting one thing. It is a wait and see at this point.
Does anyone know if NAXJA is corporate owned. Been considering jumping over there.

Not a NAXJA fan. Got banned for nothing (literally) about 5 years ago, never bothered with it again.
I'm with you Wade. It sucks to see a site I used to be a crack addict for years ago, and would literally spend hours on posting tech, help, ideas, humor, I now barely visit more then a few times a month. It's become as big as Walmart, and unfortunately just as corporate and just as trashy.
